Just... Felt like writing these down. Read if you like. These are PERSONAL, so these are just things that I try to follow about Shonen-ai and or Yaoi.

Rule #1-
They are MEN. And should act as such.

Okay, this one is like, my MAIN pet pevs with most shonen-ai/Yaoi writers. The whole POINT of that is to have two BOYS together. Not some overly-macho guy and a girl-guy -__-ll
I mean, if that's what you like, then so be. I'm not against Girly-guys or whatever, but I'm reading the story for two GUYS together, you know? If I wanted a cheezy het. love story I'd go and read twilight. -____-ll

Rule #2-
If they aren't YOUR characters, keep them IN character!

I mean, there are exceptions with situations, but at least make sure that makes SENSE. If they're quiet- don't make them loud. If they're optimisic and strong- don't make them sobby whinners. You know?

Rule #3-
For God's sake, have a PLOT.

Yeah, I can admit I've read my fair share of mindless smut, but the storys that stick with me and leave me with a feeling of accomplishment after reading them are the ones with actual plots.

Rule #4-
Make sure your plots make SENSE.

This one should be obvious. If you're going to have mpreg--if that's what you like-- then make sure that it's PLAUSABLE. If the one having the baby is another species, (a demon, a god, etc) then yeah, you've got free reign over what their inside organs can do or not do. But just randomly saying "Oh, yeah, and this guy's pregnant" doesn't fly. Give the character a reason and backround for that reason. There is no such thing as being too thoughtful.

(Well, I suppose you could go crazy with drama, but..that's not quite what I was talking about, now was it? XD)

Rule #5-
Try and avoid the cliches.

Like the "I love you" during sex. It's just...over done, and hard to believe at that moment. As Larkin of The Cirlce Trilogy by Nora Robert's once said: (paraphrased) "I'd never tell a woman I loved her while inside her. She might get confused on which of my heads was thinking that."
Same goes for BL.


And those are the main principles that I try and remember while writing Shonen-ai and or Yaoi. That and they are a normal couple like anyother, with ups and downs, sad and happy moments, and times that just DON'T INVOLVE CONSTANT SEX.
